Plaquemines Parish School Board Learning Center

Port Sulphur, Louisiana

Yeates Mancil Architects provided full A/E Services for replacing the former Alternative School building for with a new 2-story 16,000 square foott “elevated” brick veneered structure. The new building was elevated above grade to meet the minimum FEMA Base Flood Elevation requirements due to the serious flooding that took place as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The scope of the project included Classrooms, Cafeteria, Lunchroom, Industrial Arts, and Administrative Suite Areas, Restrooms as well as other ancillary spaces and Site Work. The new building was designed to minimize the impact of an elevated structure and the exterior was constructed using local St. Joe Brick with cast stone accents and a standing seam metal roof.
