The existing fire station and EMS buildings were destroyed in Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This project involved the design and construction of a new two-story Fire Station and EMS Facility in Pointe a La Hache, Louisiana. This new building is two stories in height and constructed of red Louisiana St. Joe brick with a sloped standing seam metal roof. The building was developed to house the volunteer Plaquemines Parish Fire Department and contains kitchen facilities, offices, sleeping quarters and common areas. The building also houses three fire engine “truck bays.” The Plaquemines Parish Emergency Medical Services is co-located in this facility having its own kitchen areas, common areas, bedrooms and bathrooms. Due to the flooding from the hurricanes, the development of all living and habitable areas included in this building are located on the second floor level approximately 17′ – 0″ above the first floor slab. All HVAC air handling units and condensing units were also elevated above the surrounding grade.
